Achievements

Border Pioneer features a total of 50 Steam achievements. While the majority serve as direct markers of narrative or biome progression, a subset relies on obfuscated mechanics, meta-knowledge, or bugged triggers. This guide provides a verified breakdown for completionist players.

Progression Benchmarks

The opening hours of the game yield the most common unlocks, providing a clear map of early player progression.

  • "I'm ready": Unlocked upon the completion of the mandatory tutorial sequence. This holds an 85.0% global unlock rate.
  • "Nah, I'm good without it": Holding an 80.3% global unlock rate, this tracks the first major progression step immediately following the tutorial phase.
  • Economic & Progression Achievements: You will naturally unlock standard milestones such as Capitalism, Plant pears for your heirs, FALL IN!, Gone-blin King, It takes two to tango, and Packed to the rafters as you construct diverse buildings and defeat early bosses.

Hidden Achievements and Meta-Puzzles

The most significant point of friction for completionist players is the presence of undocumented, hidden achievements that break the fourth wall.

  • "You Scared Me" (Hidden): This achievement's trigger exists entirely outside the simulation's gameplay loop. To unlock it, you must repeatedly click on the Border Pioneer title text located on the main menu interface until a specific audio tone confirms the unlock.

Tracking Errors and Bugged Logic

Certain achievements suffer from systemic tracking failures. You must use specific workarounds to bypass faulty internal logic.

"Gig Worker" (Bugged)

This achievement is widely documented as bugged. Based on the title and internal tags, players intuitively attempt to unlock it by summoning massive quantities of conscripts, fairies, or utilizing unit-spawning buildings. However, standard unit generation fails to increment the backend tracking code reliably.

Successfully unlocking this achievement requires following highly specific, esoteric behavioral loops detailed by community members in external video guides, bypassing the faulty internal logic.

General Backend Instability

Throughout the game's patch history, the community has routinely reported overarching tracking bugs where achievements simply cease updating their internal counters despite you fulfilling all required conditions within the simulation. If you are attempting a 100% completion run, monitor your Steam overlay closely to verify that statistical tracking has not silently stalled during long sessions.
