Environments and Biomes

Burglin' Gnomes does not take place in a single, generic suburban house. Progression dictates movement through diverse, procedurally altered environments that introduce escalating hazards and distinct architectural challenges.

The Suburbs

Serving as the foundational map and primary onboarding zone, the Suburbs feature standard domestic architecture. While it lacks extreme environmental hazards, it is dense with tight corridors, stairwells, and standard domestic pests. Line-of-sight evasion against the homeowner is paramount here.

The Forest / Woods

This map introduces outdoor navigation complexities, moving away from enclosed domestic spaces. It features specific wildlife threats, including Sleeping Boars. Strategic players can harvest tusks from these boars, introducing a high-risk resource gathering mechanic that is entirely absent from the Suburbs.

The Swamp

A hostile environment featuring complex, restrictive terrain that limits movement speed. The Swamp introduces unique domestic threats, most notably the Pitbull Kennels. Navigating the Swamp requires specialized evasion tactics and a deep understanding of auditory aggro ranges to avoid waking the hounds.

The Beach

This biome introduces significant verticality and avian threats. Players engage in specific high-risk tasks unique to the environment, such as Seagull Egg Heists. To navigate the sandy terrain and vertical structures, players heavily use Agility Potions, altering the standard movement economy.

The Mountaintop

The most mechanically demanding vertical map in the game. It features extreme weather hazards, specifically powerful wind gusts and vortexes. These weather events physically interact with the player, ragdolling gnomes, throwing them off ledges, and stripping them of their equipped gear.

Following Patch 1.0.10, the wind physics provide better visual cues to anticipate wind vortexes. Surviving the Mountaintop requires masterful use of the Glider and an understanding of wind timing to negate catastrophic fall damage.
