Weapons and Items

Weapons change your stats and sometimes add special effects like critical hits or elemental damage. You collect weapons by defeating enemies, digging them up, or buying them in stores.

Weapon Stats

Weapons boost or lower your core stats. A heavy club might give you +5 Strength but -2 Agility. Pick a weapon that fits your build.

  • Strength Builds: Look for weapons with high Strength bonuses and critical hit chances. The Gold Sword or the Club work well.
  • Magic Builds: Prioritize Magic stats. Weapons that boost Magic often reduce your Defense or Strength.
  • Defense Builds: Grab a weapon that gives Defense if you find yourself dying too fast.

Special Effects and The Critical Hit Meta

Some weapons have hidden traits. A weapon might freeze enemies, poison them, or deal extra critical damage. Test out new weapons to see if they have passive abilities. The basic sword you start with has no special effects.

For late-game Insane Mode viability, you need to understand the critical hit meta. The NG Golden Sword (+5 Strength, +5 Magic, -3 Agility) is optimal for hybrid builds. However, the Gold Skull Mace (+3 Strength, 4% Critical Hit chance) and the Chainsaw (+5 Defense, 5% Critical Hit chance) define the ultimate physical meta.

Mathematical modeling shows that a 5% critical hit rate on the Chainsaw (averaging one critical strike every 20 hits) effectively adds an equivalent of +8 Strength to your overall damage output over a prolonged engagement. This makes it mathematically superior to weapons that offer flat +5 Strength bonuses for purely physical builds.

Usable Items

You carry items in your inventory and use them with the item button. Keep your stock full.

  • Potions: Instantly restores your health. Buy these in stores. Max out your potions before tough boss fights.
  • Sandwiches: Turns you into a massive, beefy knight for a short time. You deal huge damage and take less damage. Some doors require a sandwich to break open.
  • Bombs: Blows up cracked walls and deals fire damage to enemies. Good for finding secrets.
  • Shovel: Digs up items and Animal Orbs at "X" marks on the ground.
  • Bow and Arrow: A basic ranged weapon. Damage scales with your Agility stat.
