Hollow Knight: Silksong: Silk Management & Bind Healing Guide

Gamer IT KBTactical Quick Answer

Bind healing restores three masks of health in a 72-frame cast by consuming a full Silk spool. Fill your Silk meter by striking enemies with needle attacks, and expand your max spool capacity by collecting Spool Fragments.

Silk serves as both Hornet's healing lifeblood and her energy source for high-tier needle skills. Unlike traditional resource meters that charge slowly for single heals, Hornet's Silk system requires a completely filled spool to execute a triple-mask restoration.

How does the Bind healing mechanic differ from Focus?

Bind consumes a full spool of Silk to heal three masks of health in a fast 72-frame burst without requiring a long ground channel cast.

When your Silk spool is fully glowing, pressing the Bind button causes Hornet to wrap thread around herself. This action restores three masks of health simultaneously. You can trigger Bind in mid-air, while sliding down walls, or during open ground movement.

If your Silk spool is even slightly incomplete, Bind fails to activate. Partial spool fills cannot be spent on single-mask heals, forcing you to maintain aggressive offense until the meter reaches maximum capacity.

important

Standard Bind takes exactly 72 frames to complete. Crests modify this cast speed: the Witch Crest halves Bind time to 36 frames (draining life from nearby enemies), while the Shaman Crest increases cast time to 80 frames and disables mid-air binding.

How do you expand your maximum Silk Spool capacity?

Collect three Silk Spool Fragments scattered across Pharloom to permanently add a new knot segment to your Silk meter.

Starting out, Hornet carries a single spool capable of holding nine thread charges. Finding Spool Fragments expands this capacity, allowing you to bank extra Silk for back-to-back Silk skills or extra Bind reserves.

  • Spool Fragments: Found inside hidden weave chests, granted by NPCs after completing errands, or purchased from specialized merchants in the Citadel.
  • Silk Seals: Rare relics hidden in end-game challenge rooms that grant a full spool upgrade upon collection.

How do you maintain Silk generation in intense encounters?

Generate Silk rapidly by stringing basic needle combos, landing downward pogo hits, and equipping Silk-boosting Crest charms.

Every successful needle strike adds one charge of thread to your spool. Aggressive play fills the meter in three to four combo strings. To maximize thread collection against mobile bosses:

  1. Chain Aerial Pogos: Landing two consecutive pogo hits on large enemies yields quick thread build-up while keeping you safe from ground swings.
  2. Use Thread Spools: Consume inventory thread spools during long exploration sequences where no enemies spawn to manually fill your meter.
  3. Equip Weaver Charms: Slot Yellow Crest charms that grant bonus Silk per hit or automatically generate thread when taking damage.

What happens to your Silk meter when you die?

Dying locks the top third of your Silk spool behind a Silk Cocoon until you return and break it with your needle.

While your Silk meter is restricted by a cocoon, you can still fill the remaining two-thirds of the spool. However, because Bind requires a complete spool to activate, your main spool knot capacity is effectively reduced, making it harder to accumulate enough Silk for emergency heals during runbacks.

Break your cocoon as early in a room as possible to restore your full meter capacity before engaging tough enemies.

tip

Airborne Bind healing is Hornet's strongest survival skill. Jump away from bosses, trigger Bind at the apex of your jump, and drop back down with three restored masks before the boss can close the distance.

Can I heal just one mask if I only need one?

No. Bind always consumes a full Silk spool and restores three masks at once, regardless of your current health.

Do Silk skills prevent me from healing?

Yes. Using offensive Silk skills spends thread from your active spool, delaying your ability to reach a full spool for Bind.

Where do I buy Thread Spools for inventory storage?

Weaver merchants in the Citadel sell consumable Thread Spools for 80 Rosaries each.
