Achievement Guide
I Am Bread has 35 Steam achievements covering Story Mode completion, A++ mastery across the five scored modes, and a set of object challenges. Six of them are hidden on Steam. Nothing in the game sits below 1 percent, and the rarest are a three-way tie at 1.1 percent between Turophile, The Final Buntier, and Bunbreakable. TrueAchievements puts full completion at 40 to 50 hours.
I Am Bread has 35 Steam achievements spanning Story Mode completion, A++ mastery across the five scored modes, and a collection of challenges tied to specific in-game interactions.
The achievement roster did grow after launch. An archived capture of the Steam achievement page from two days after the April 9, 2015 release lists only 34, with "Bread Leader" absent entirely and not merely hidden. It appears in later captures, matching the Starch Wars update of May 4, 2015 that added the boss it references.
The game's difficult physics make many of these genuinely hard to earn. Only 4.1% of players have completed all Story levels. Note though that nothing in this game is below 1%: the floor is a three-way tie at 1.1%. Global rates below were read from Steam in July 2026 and drift over time, so treat them as a difficulty ranking. TrueAchievements puts full completion at 40 to 50 hours.
Common Achievementsโ
These unlock through normal play or common failure states. Most players earn them within their first few hours.
| Achievement | How to Unlock | Hidden | Unlock Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| I Am Dead | Become inedible. | No | 68.4% |
| Bunfortunate | Spill the salt. | No | 58.6% |
| Bready for Anything | Finish a Story level using Magic Marmalade. Fail a level twice to make the Marmalade appear on your third attempt. | No | 24.8% |
| The Bread Baron | Stay airborne for over 5 seconds on any mode except Zero Gravity. | No | 22.9% |
| The Walking Bread | Finish a Story level with less than 1% edibility. | No | 10.4% |
"I Am Dead" is the most common achievement at 68.4%. Most players earn it accidentally in their first few minutes. "Bunfortunate" is almost as easy. Just bump a salt shaker.
Note that The Bread Baron at 22.9% and The Walking Bread at 10.4% are far more common than their reputations suggest. Neither is a rare achievement.
Story Mode Achievementsโ
| Achievement | How to Unlock | Hidden | Unlock Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| The End is Rye | "Complete all Story levels." All seven rooms, finishing with the Petrol Station and its Surgeon Simulator tie-in. | No | 4.1% |
| Cool Story, Dough | "Get an A++ on a Story level." | No | 2.4% |
| Raconteur | "Get an A++ on all Story levels." | No | 1.2% |
Mode Completion Achievementsโ
Completion (All Levels)โ
| Achievement | Mode | How to Unlock | Unlock Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rye Hard | Rampage | Complete all Rampage levels. | 3.9% |
| Good All-Rounder | Bagel Race | Complete all Bagel Race levels. | 3.4% |
| One Giant Leap for Naankind | Zero-G | Complete all Zero Gravity levels. | 1.3% |
| Brie-lliant | Cheese Hunt | Complete all Cheese Hunt levels. The cracker's fragility makes the later rooms the real barrier. | 1.2% |
A++ Mastery (All Levels)โ
| Achievement | Mode | How to Unlock | Unlock Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| High Roller | Bagel Race | A++ on all Bagel Race levels. Requires flawless racing lines and checkpoint routing. | 1.3% |
| The Rye of the Tiger | Rampage | A++ on all Rampage levels. Requires memorizing dense object clusters for maximum combo. | 1.2% |
| Turophile | Cheese Hunt | A++ on all Cheese Hunt levels. Tied for rarest in the game. | 1.1% |
| The Final Buntier | Zero-G | A++ on all Zero Gravity levels. Tied for rarest in the game. | 1.1% |
First A++ (Any Level)โ
| Achievement | Mode | How to Unlock | Unlock Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Always Baguetting Better | Rampage | A++ on a Rampage level. | 3.6% |
| The Best Around | Bagel Race | A++ on a Bagel Race level. Purely a time optimization. | 2.2% |
| The Flour is Strong With This Bun | Zero-G | A++ on a Zero Gravity level. | 1.3% |
| A Wedge Between Us | Cheese Hunt | A++ on a Cheese Hunt level. | 1.2% |
The "First A++" achievements are a good intermediate goal. Earn one in each mode before attempting full A++ mastery. The Kitchen is the easiest map for all modes.
Spread and Edibility Achievementsโ
| Achievement | How to Unlock | Hidden | Unlock Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| You Jelly? | Finish a Story level with both sides covered in jam. Coat one side, flip, coat the other, then reach a heat source. | No | 6.6% |
| All Buttered Up | Finish a Story level with both sides covered in butter. Same process as "You Jelly?" | No | 5.8% |
| Fresh Slice | Finish a Story level with 100% edibility without using the Magic Marmalade. Demands zero floor contact and no water or ant exposure. | No | 3.9% |
"The Walking Bread", listed further up at 10.4%, is a paradoxical challenge worth understanding before you attempt it. You must finish a Story level with less than 1% edibility, which means toasting first and then deliberately ruining the finished toast on dirty surfaces before completion triggers. It is not about surviving on low edibility.
Strategy Notesโ
Fresh Slice (100% edibility, no Magic Marmalade): Do this on the Kitchen. Walk along the counter to the toaster without touching anything dirty. The entire route is clean countertop.
You Jelly? and All Buttered Up: You need both sides of your bread coated. Find the spread, roll through it on one side, then flip and roll through again. The Kitchen is easiest because both jam and butter are on the counter.
Interaction and Object Achievementsโ
These require you to interact with specific objects in particular levels. Six achievements are hidden on Steam, showing no description until you unlock them: TV Dinner, Rye and Dry, Bagel Space Program, "Party's Over!", Joy Rye-der, and "Grooovy!".
| Achievement | How to Unlock | Hidden | Level | Unlock Rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TV Dinner | Break the TV. Drop the bowling ball from the shelf onto the screen. | Yes | Lounge | 10.2% |
| Picky Eater | Use more than one heat source to toast yourself in a single Story run. | No | Any | 8.6% |
| Rye and Dry | Turn on the hair dryer. Jump on it to start it. | Yes | Bathroom | 6.6% |
| Bagel Space Program | Launch the rocket. Run into the red rocket to knock it over. | Yes | Kitchen | 5.2% |
| "Party's Over!" | Start the lawnmower, found on the far right side of the room. | Yes | Garage | 4.7% |
| Joy Rye-der | Start the car. Turn the key in the ignition. | Yes | Garden | 2.3% |
| "Grooovy!" | Start the chainsaw. | Yes | Garage | 1.8% |
| Shadough of the Colossus | Climb atop the Garbage Truck on Story mode. | No | Petrol Station | 1.7% |
| Doughny Hawk | Stand upright on the skateboard and ride it for 1 meter as the Wholemeal bread. | No | See the exploit below | 1.4% |
| Fuel-Efficient | Finish a Zero Gravity level using less than 100 fuel. | No | Any (Zero-G) | 1.3% |
| Bunbreakable | Finish a Cheese Hunt level with 100% integrity. Tied for rarest in the game. | No | Any (Cheese Hunt) | 1.1% |
The car for Joy Rye-der is in the Garden, not the Garage. The Garage holds the lawnmower and the chainsaw. Hunting for a car in the Garage is a common wasted trip.
The "Doughny Hawk" Exploitโ
This one earns dedicated documentation because balancing legitimately is close to impossible. The requirement is to "stand upright on the skateboard and ride it for 1 meter as the Wholemeal bread."
A player-documented method is the reliable route. A Steam Community post describes it directly:
- Locate the skateboard.
- Approach it from underneath instead of on top.
- Grip the underside of the board with two corners.
- The board rises and begins levitating.
- Ride it while it sits at roughly a 45-degree angle to the floor.
- The achievement triggers.
This is a real, reproducible community method and not folklore, and the description above matches the original post closely. Note that the explanation sometimes attached to it, about overlapping collision meshes fooling an "upright" vector check, is community reasoning about why it works, not anything documented. The steps are what matters.
Starch Wars Achievementโ
| Achievement | How to Unlock | Hidden | Unlock Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bread Leader | Take out the Starch Destroyer in Starch Wars mode. Destroy 2 dorsal orbs and 1 ventral orb, then fly into the toaster slot on the ironing board boss. | No | 2.7% |
See the Game Modes guide for a full Starch Wars breakdown.
Recommended Completion Strategyโ
Phase 1: Learn the Controls (Hours 1-3)โ
- Play through the Kitchen in Story Mode. Do not worry about your grade.
- Use Free Roam on the Kitchen to practice SIF, wall climbing, and corner-grip movement.
- Earn "I Am Dead" (become inedible) and "Bunfortunate" (spill the salt). Both happen naturally.
- Earn "Bready for Anything" by failing a level twice so Magic Marmalade appears on your third attempt, then finishing with it.
- Practice until you can complete the Kitchen without touching the floor.
Phase 2: Story Mode Completion (Hours 3-10)โ
- Complete all seven Story levels. Earn "The End is Rye."
- Earn the hidden interaction achievements as you encounter them: "Party's Over!" (Garage lawnmower), "Grooovy!" (Garage chainsaw), "Joy Rye-der" (Garden car ignition).
- Earn "TV Dinner" in the Lounge by pushing the bowling ball off the shelf onto the TV.
- Earn "Rye and Dry" in the Bathroom by activating the hair dryer.
- Earn "Picky Eater" by using two heat sources in one Kitchen run (stove, then toaster).
- Earn "The Bread Baron" (5+ seconds airborne) using the Kitchen rocket explosion or the Garden fan.
- Earn "Bagel Space Program" by nudging the Kitchen rocket.
Phase 3: Mode Completion (Hours 10-18)โ
- Complete all Cheese Hunt levels ("Brie-lliant").
- Complete all Bagel Race levels ("Good All-Rounder").
- Complete all Rampage levels ("Rye Hard").
- Complete all Zero-G levels ("One Giant Leap for Naankind").
- Complete Starch Wars ("Bread Leader").
- Earn "Bunbreakable" (100% Integrity Cheese Hunt) on the Kitchen.
- Earn "Fuel-Efficient" (< 100 fuel Zero-G) on the Kitchen.
Phase 4: Spread and Edibility Cleanup (Hours 18-22)โ
- Earn "Fresh Slice" (100% edibility, no Marmalade) on the Kitchen.
- Earn "You Jelly?" (both sides jammed) on the Kitchen.
- Earn "All Buttered Up" (both sides buttered) on the Kitchen.
- Earn "The Walking Bread" (< 1% edibility) on the Kitchen. Toast fully, then drag across the floor.
- Earn "Doughny Hawk" by gripping the skateboard's underside so it levitates, then riding it.
- Earn "Shadough of the Colossus" by climbing the Garbage Truck at the Petrol Station.
Phase 5: A++ Mastery (Hours 22-50)โ
- Earn the "First A++" achievement for each mode on the Kitchen ("Cool Story, Dough," "A Wedge Between Us," "The Best Around," "Always Baguetting Better," "The Flour is Strong With This Bun").
- Work through A++ ratings on each mode from easiest level to hardest, following the room order Kitchen, Lounge, Bedroom, Bathroom, Garage, Garden, Petrol Station.
- Budget multiple hours per level per mode for the later rooms.
- Finish with "Raconteur" (all Story A++), "High Roller" (all Bagel Race A++), "The Rye of the Tiger" (all Rampage A++), "Turophile" (all Cheese Hunt A++), and "The Final Buntier" (all Zero-G A++). The last two are the rarest achievements in the game at 1.1%.

Frequently Asked Questionsโ
How many achievements does I Am Bread have?
35, and six of them are hidden on Steam. The roster did grow after launch: an archived capture from two days after the April 2015 release shows only 34, with Bread Leader missing, because the Starch Wars update that added its boss did not arrive until May 4, 2015.
What is the rarest achievement in I Am Bread?
Three are tied at 1.1 percent: Turophile for A++ on every Cheese Hunt level, The Final Buntier for A++ on every Zero Gravity level, and Bunbreakable for finishing a Cheese Hunt level with 100 percent integrity. Nothing in the game sits below 1 percent.
What is the easiest achievement in I Am Bread?
I Am Dead is the most common at 68.4 percent, and most players trip it accidentally in their first few minutes. Bunfortunate is almost as easy, since you only need to spill the salt.
How do I unlock Doughny Hawk?
Balancing legitimately almost never works. A player-documented method is to approach the skateboard from underneath and grip its underside with two corners, which makes the board rise and levitate, then ride it while it sits at roughly 45 degrees to the floor.
How do I get The Walking Bread achievement?
Toast your bread fully first, then deliberately drag the finished toast across dirty surfaces until edibility reads near zero, then trigger the level completion. The challenge is about ruining already-toasted bread, not about surviving on low edibility.
How long does 100 percent completion take in I Am Bread?
Roughly 35 to 40 hours of highly technical, repetitive gameplay. The recommended plan runs in five phases, from learning the controls in hours 1 to 3 through A++ mastery from hours 22 to 40.
