Badge of Excellence wants every other base-game award and Hero's Accolade does the same for Sunbreak, so awards scattered across two save files will never complete either one. Story and Progression Achievements​

You unlock these naturally by playing through the Village and Hub campaigns.

  • Kamura Amulet: Clear the 2-Star Village Urgent Quest "Great Izuchi, Great Pain." You begin the game at Hunter Rank 1 already, and Village quests raise your Village star level and not your Hunter Rank.
  • Apex Shortsword: Banish an Apex Monster in the Rampage. Most players first get this on the 4-Star Hub Urgent against Apex Arzuros.
  • Tempestuous Triumph Scroll: Repel Wind Serpent Ibushi in the 6-Star Hub Urgent "Serpent God of Wind." Ibushi is driven off, not slain.
  • Calamity Conqueror Scroll: Defeat both serpents. Ibushi first, then Thunder Serpent Narwa in the 7-Star Hub Urgent "Serpent Goddess of Thunder." Narwa ends the Gathering Hub campaign, but she is no longer the end of the story, since Version 3.0 added Narwa the Allmother.
  • Ancestral Blade: Hunt Magnamalo, the base game's flagship.
  • Fan of Fading Crimson: Hunt Crimson Glow Valstrax.
  • Aspiring Hunter Certificate: Complete every single Low Rank Hub quest.
  • Adept Hunter Certificate: Complete every single High Rank Hub quest, events excluded.
  • Badge of Excellence: Earn every other base-game award. Sunbreak's equivalent is Hero's Accolade.

The Ecologist Awards​

There are three photography awards in the base game, not two:

  • Copper Ecologist's Award: Photograph every Hunting Helper.
  • Silver Ecologist's Award: Photograph all five Rare Creatures, listed below.
  • Gold Ecologist's Award: Photograph every endemic lifeform. This one is a superset and covers both of the others.

The five base-game Rare Creatures, one per map, spawn at a single fixed spot under a time-of-day condition and are random per visit. If one is not there, fast travel to a camp and come back. Expeditions let you pick the time of day, which makes the whole hunt far less painful:

  • Snow-faced Fox: Shrine Ruins (Area 5, on top of the gate, Nighttime).
  • Monksnail: Frost Islands (Area 8, out in the ocean to the east, Nighttime).
  • Quetzalcobra: Flooded Forest (Areas 2/3, inside the large pyramid, Daytime).
  • Regitrice: Sandy Plains (Area 12, inside the underground ruins, Daytime).
  • Hellbill: Lava Caverns (crater reached via Area 11, at dawn, in the morning right after nighttime, not during the night).

Sunbreak adds two more Rare Creatures, the Regalfin in the Jungle and the Gargolda in the Citadel. They feed the separate Sunbreak award Natural Picture Frame, not Silver Ecologist's.

The "Deft-hand Rod" Fishing Fallacy​

Warning: The Deft-hand Rod achievement requires you to manually catch one of each of the 19 qualifying fish using the interactive fishing minigame, counting each variant separately. Procuring fish passively through the Argosy submarine trading system does not trigger the achievement progression. You must manually catch the four High Rank exclusives: Platinumfish, Great Gastronome Tuna, Speartuna, and the Supreme Brocadefish in Lava Caverns Area 1.

One piece of good news the warning usually omits: the Armored Bream and the Springnight Carp are Argosy-only and are not required, so do not waste hours casting for them.

The Crown Grind​

The most notorious achievements in any Monster Hunter game are the Crown achievements.

  • Mini Crown Plaque: Register all base-game miniature crown sizes.
  • Gold Crown Plaque: Register all base-game large gold crown sizes.
  • Miniature Crown Shield and Gold Crown Shield: The Sunbreak equivalents, covering the Master Rank roster.

Monsters spawn with slight size variations. A miniature crown means you hunted the absolute smallest version of that monster possible. A gold large crown means you hunted the absolute largest. The base-game pair covers every monster except Ibushi and Narwa, the six Apexes included.

Tips for Crown Hunting:

  • Standard quests are a poor place to farm. 3% is the ceiling, and only on that monster's High Rank Gathering Hub introduction quest. Multi-target quests sit closer to 1%. Sunbreak is kinder, raising the rate to roughly 6% miniature and 10% large on introduction, Follower, and Anomaly quests.
  • Target the Event Quests instead. Capcom hard-coded around fifteen of them to guarantee a crown, which skips hundreds of hours of RNG. The collaboration quests are the famous ones: the Mega Man 11 event "The Blue Bomber's Best Bud" spawns a puppy-sized Zinogre at a guaranteed miniature crown, and the Street Fighter event "SF: Ultimate Promotion Exam" guarantees a large-crown Rajang. Rise's collaborations were Mega Man, Street Fighter, Sonic, Okami, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Monster Hunter Stories 2, and Universal Studios Japan, so there is no musical crossover to look for.
  • If you must farm standard quests, "size" a monster by luring it into a Shock Trap, which forces a fixed pose, then compare a body part against your hunter's height on flat ground. A Large Barrel Bomb dropped beside a sleeping monster works as a ruler too.
  • Once you have the crown, leave through "Return from Quest." Abandoning the quest throws the registration away. Abandon is only for discarding a size you do not want before you have registered it.

The Sunbreak Half​

Sunbreak doubles the list with 50 more awards on the same Guild Card system. They cover Master Rank hunt counts, the afflicted and Anomaly grind, the Risen Elder Dragons, Follower quests, Qurious Crafting milestones, the two Master Rank crown shields, and Natural Picture Frame for photographing the Citadel and Jungle wildlife. Hero's Accolade closes that set the way Badge of Excellence closes the base game.
