The Sunbreak Expansion (Master Rank)

The Sunbreak expansion fundamentally rearchitects the endgame of Monster Hunter Rise, introducing Master Rank (MR), the Elgado Outpost, new environmental locales, and a host of devastating new monsters like the "Three Lords."

Master Rank and Switch Skill Swap

Master Rank represents the ultimate difficulty tier. Monsters have entirely new movesets, faster recovery times, and massive health pools. Weapons can now be upgraded to Purple sharpness, providing an unparalleled 1.39x Raw and 1.25x Elemental damage multiplier.

Sunbreak also introduces the Switch Skill Swap system. You can save two completely distinct loadouts of five Switch Skills (the Red and Blue Switch Skill Swap Scrolls). You can swap between these loadouts instantaneously during combat. This swap animation features invincibility frames and can be fluidly integrated into offensive combo strings.

The Anomaly Grind

Following the narrative conclusion of Sunbreak, you enter the true endgame loop: the Anomaly system.

Afflicted Monsters

You will face Afflicted Monsters, creatures infected by the Qurio parasite. These entities feature massively inflated health pools, increased aggression, and immunity to fatigue.

Unique "Anomaly Cores" manifest on their bodies during the hunt. You must actively target and rupture these cores to deal burst damage and prevent a devastating, localized explosion sequence known as an Anomaly Burst.

Anomaly Investigations

Investigations operate on an independent, infinitely scaling leveling system, distinct from Hunter Rank (HR) or Master Rank (MR). The system caps at Level 300, introducing increasingly lethal permutations of monsters, including Risen Elder Dragons.

Higher-level investigations yield increasingly rare Afflicted Materials. You need these materials to fuel Qurious Crafting.

Qurious Crafting

Qurious Crafting is a late-game resource sink that permits you to permanently augment your armor and weapons using Afflicted materials.

  • Weapon Augments: Use set upgrade slots for linear, predictable buffs (such as raw Attack, Affinity, or Element increases).
  • Armor Augments: Use a high-variance RNG system that randomizes base defense, elemental resistances, and invaluable skill points.

Because Armor Augmentation is completely random, be prepared to invest significant resources to roll the perfect stat combinations for your build.

Follower System

Introduced in Sunbreak, the Follower system allows you to bring AI companions (like Fiorayne or Minoto) into hunts. Initially restricted to specific solo-only "Follower Quests," AI companions can now be utilized in almost all Master Rank and Anomaly quests. This fundamentally softens the solo-play difficulty curve and reduces the necessity for multiplayer matchmaking.
