Biomes and The Holy Mountain

Tactical Quick Answer

The Holy Mountain sits between each biome as a sanctuary where you heal, refill limited-use spells, edit your wands freely, shop, and pick one of three perks from the Perk Altar. Damaging its brickwork angers the gods and spawns Stevari, a flying skeletal guardian whose shield deflects projectiles from every direction. Kill three Stevari in one run and the threat escalates permanently to Skoude, who has two shields and a matter-eating field, though the Peace with Gods perk shuts the whole system down.

Your main objective is to descend through the mountain. The Main Path runs Mines, Coal Pits, Snowy Depths, Hiisi Base, Underground Jungle, The Vault, Temple of the Art, and The Laboratory, with a Holy Mountain between each pair. Note that the Temple of the Art is the seventh of eight, not the last one.

The Holy Mountain provides several critical services:

  1. Full Heal and Spell Refresh: One Full Health Regeneration and one Spell Refresher pickup, in the center.
  2. Wand Editing: You can freely drag and drop spells between your wands and inventory, and this stays available until the ceiling collapses behind you.
  3. Shop: Spend your gold on either 5 wands or 10 spells.
  4. Perks: A Perk Altar offers three perks, and selecting one makes the other two disappear.
  5. The reroll machine: Costs 200 gold and doubles in price every time you use it. Easy to miss, and the single most useful thing in the room once you know what you want.
  6. The Worm Crystal: Sits in its own cavity and passively repels worms from a large radius, which is the only reason they do not routinely smash the place open on their own.
  7. Two Temple Statues that display damage numbers when you hit them, plus two water pools with EvΓ€kΓ€s.
tip

Clear the previous biome without killing anything and a Pacifist Chest spawns in the alcove above the Perk Altar, opposite the reroll machine.

Do Not Anger the Gods

The Holy Mountain is built from durable brickwork, though only the "protected" bricks on a defined set of lines around the shop area trigger anything. Black Holes and Luminous Drills will do it, and so will the Plasma Cutter, Matter Eater, Emerald Tablet digging, a Draught of Midas, your own acid flasks, the acid left by Happonuljaska and Γ„itinuljaska, and worms if the Worm Crystal fails to keep them away.

Damage enough of it and you get the message "You have angered the gods".

This spawns Stevari, nicknamed "Steve" and also "Mall Cop", a flying skeletal guardian with 600 HP that appears above the Perk Altar. Its shield deflects moving projectiles and is a powerful version of the omnidirectional Energy Shield, so there is no safe angle to shoot it from.

Kill three separate Stevari anywhere in a run and the threat escalates permanently. The message "The gods are enraged" appears and every further uncollapsed Holy Mountain spawns Skoude, nicknamed "Scott" or "Big Steve". Skoude has 900 HP, two large protective shields, and a matter-eating field that dissolves terrain, brickwork and physics objects.

warning

Skoude is not immune to kinetic impacts. Its immunities are freeze, electricity, polymorph, suffocation and fire, plus zero multipliers on ice and holy. What actually defeats thrown objects is the matter-eating field, which destroys them once it is chasing you.

Two things stop this escalation. Stevari killed while you are Polymorphed do not count toward the three, and the Peace with Gods perk prevents the whole system and charms any Stevari or Skoude already out. Damaging brickwork after Skoude is unlocked gives a third message, "The gods are very angry with you".

Defeating Stevari

The Statue Kick kills Stevari in one shot without a wand. The Holy Mountain contains two Temple Statues, and kicking one into Stevari not only one-shots him but pays 2x gold for a trick kill, or 4x with the Trick Greed perk.

Note that these are Temple Statues, not "pacifist statues", which is not a thing. The Pacifist Chest is a separate feature entirely. Nothing documents the kick as bypassing the shield either, and it does not need to: the shield deflects moving projectiles, and a kicked prop is not one.

Escaping Without Escalation

You can leave a Holy Mountain without collapsing it and keep wand editing available. The collapse only fires when you cross into the upper section of the exit tunnel, so anything that skips that crossing works: Teleport Bolt or Return, a Teleportatium or Unstable Teleportatium flask, or Polymorphine to pass through in another form. Digging through the brickwork also gets you out, at the cost of angering the gods.

One correction worth making: Long-Distance Cast is a range modifier, not a teleport. You add it to a teleport wand, you do not cast it on its own.

warning

Be careful when using chaotic or explosive spells near the Holy Mountain exit. Collapsing the exit prevents you from returning to edit wands.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can you do in the Holy Mountain in Noita?

A Full Health Regeneration and a Spell Refresher pickup, free wand and inventory editing until the ceiling collapses, a shop offering 5 wands or 10 spells, and a Perk Altar where you pick one of three. Do not overlook the reroll machine, which costs 200 gold and doubles each use, or the Worm Crystal that keeps worms from smashing the place open.

What happens when you anger the gods in Noita?

You get the message that you have angered the gods, and Stevari spawns above the Perk Altar: a flying skeletal guardian with 600 HP whose shield deflects moving projectiles from every direction, not just the front. Black Holes, Luminous Drills, the Plasma Cutter, Matter Eater, your own acid flasks, and acid from Happonuljaska or Γ„itinuljaska will all do it.

How do you kill Stevari without a strong wand?

The Statue Kick. Kick one of the two Temple Statues into him and it one-shots him, and you get 2x gold for a trick kill or 4x with Trick Greed. They are Temple Statues and not pacifist statues, and the kick works because the shield only deflects projectiles, not because it bypasses anything.

What happens if you kill three Stevari in one run?

The gods are enraged, and every further uncollapsed Holy Mountain spawns Skoude instead, with 900 HP, two shields and a matter-eating field. It is not immune to kinetic impacts, its immunities are freeze, electricity, polymorph, suffocation and fire. Stevari killed while Polymorphed do not count toward the three, and Peace with Gods prevents all of it.

How do you leave the Holy Mountain without collapsing it?

The collapse only fires when you cross into the upper section of the exit tunnel, so skip that crossing. Use Teleport Bolt or Return, a Teleportatium flask, or Polymorphine to pass through in another form. Long-Distance Cast is a range modifier you add to a teleport wand, not a teleport by itself.
