Technology and Progression
Regular Technology Points come from leveling up, at 6 per level, and from activating new fast travel statues at 1 each. Purple Ancient Technology Points come mostly from first boss defeats, with Tower Bosses worth 5 apiece, and also from Ancient Technical Manuals and bounties. Spend early points on survival gear, better Pal Spheres, base upgrades, and saddles instead of cosmetic furniture. The Pal Labor Research Lab at Level 19 and the Pal Expedition Station at Level 22 turn idle Pals into steady passive gains.
Leveling up unlocks new crafting recipes in the Technology tree. Efficiently gathering experience points and hunting down Ancient Technology points dictates the pace of your adventure.
The Technology Treeโ
You earn 6 Technology Points per level up, which is 474 across the climb to level 80, plus 1 point per fast travel or Tower fast travel point you unlock. Technical Manuals, in High Grade, Innovative and Future tiers, give more. The whole tree costs 1,413 Technology Points and 185 Ancient Technology Points across 80 tiers, so you will not unlock everything. Prioritize essential survival gear, better Pal Spheres, and base upgrades.
Focus on unlocking saddles for your favorite mounts early. A flying mount like Nitewing completely changes how you explore the map. Skip cosmetic furniture items until you have a surplus of points later in the game.
v1.0.3 moved two things down the tree. The Aquatic Construction Kit dropped from Level 66 to Level 23, its Ancient Technology Point requirement fell from 4 to 1, and its required materials and work amount were adjusted. Some Jetragon-related technologies moved from Level 79 to Level 70, and the Pal Gear used to ride Jetragon now takes fewer materials.
Earning Experience Quicklyโ
Catching Pals is the fastest way to gain experience. The game grants a massive scaling experience bonus for catching the first five of any specific species. Catch five Chikipi, five Lamball, and five Cattiva. Repeat this process for every new species you encounter.
Defeating bosses and clearing dungeons also provides significant experience chunks. Completing base upgrade missions grants large bonuses and allows you to deploy more workers simultaneously.
Ancient Technologyโ
The right side of the Technology tree contains the Ancient Technology column, unlocked with purple Ancient Technology Points. The Egg Incubator at tier 10 and the Grappling Gun at tier 12 are here. The Feed Bag is not: all five sizes are ordinary Technology Point unlocks at tiers 9, 14, 23, 36 and 47.
Boss kills are the main source but not the only one:
- Alpha Pals: Giant, named versions of regular Pals roaming the open world. First defeat only.
- Tower Bosses: The major Syndicate leaders, worth 5 points each, and there are now nine of them.
- Bounties: Human Alphas, 1 point on first defeat or capture.
- Ancient Technical Manuals: Consumables worth 1 point each, from dungeon chests, enemy camp goal chests and the Arrogant Pal Critic.
Note that dungeon bosses themselves award nothing. The Ancient Technology Points people associate with dungeons come from the manuals in the two end chests.
Hunt down low level Alpha Pals like Chillet and Sweepa, both Level 11, early on. They are easy to defeat and grant the points needed to unlock the Egg Incubator.
Alpha Pals respawn on a one real-time hour timer, not an in-game morning. You can farm them repeatedly for Ancient Civilization Parts, which drop at 100% and are required to craft Ancient Technology items. The Ancient Technology Points, though, are first-kill only.
Always bring the correct elemental counter when fighting an Alpha Pal. Review the Combat and Bosses guide to prepare for these encounters.
Pal Expedition Stationโ
The Pal Expedition Station unlocks at Technology Level 22, costing 10 Wooden Board, 100 Stone, 20 Paldium and 20 Cement. Build it at your base to dispatch unused Pals on timed loot-gathering missions. Select a mission difficulty, assign a team of Pals, and wait for them to return with materials. Low risk missions complete quickly and provide basic supplies. Higher risk missions take longer but yield rare ores, Ancient Civilization Parts, and crafting components.
This system is the best way to put idle Pals to work. Unused Pals sitting in your Palbox do nothing, so send them out on expeditions while you focus on base building or exploration.
Pal Labor Research Laboratoryโ
The Pal Labor Research Lab unlocks at Technology Level 19, costing 30 Ingot and 30 Paldium. It spends Ancient Pal Manuscripts on permanent, base-wide productivity buffs, one research line per work suitability. Mining Lv1 research, for example, grants +10% Work Speed for Mining.
Ancient Pal Manuscripts come from Pal Expeditions, not from dungeon chests, paying out 5 to 7 on Grass tier up to 25 to 30 on the hard tiers including the Sakurajima and Feybreak expeditions. Fishing treasure also yields them. Prioritize Mining and Handiwork research first, as these provide the largest return for automated production lines.
Frequently Asked Questionsโ
How do you get Ancient Technology Points in Palworld?
Mostly from first-time boss defeats: Alpha Pals in the open world, and Tower Bosses at 5 points each across the nine towers. Bounties on human Alphas give 1 each, and Ancient Technical Manuals from dungeon chests and enemy camps give 1 per consumable. Dungeon bosses themselves award nothing, so the dungeon points come from the manuals in the end chests.
What is the fastest way to gain experience in Palworld?
