Materials and Farming (Patapon 1)

Tactical Quick Answer

Materials in Patapon 1 come from three places: hunting missions, the five rhythm minigames, and boss drops. Boss stagger farming is the most efficient late-game method, because staggering a boss makes it drop an item on top of whatever it gives you on death. The Earthquake Miracle staggers most bosses outright, which makes it the single biggest upgrade to your farming. Ka-ching, your currency, comes from hunting missions and boss defeats.

Everything in Patapon 1 runs on materials. Creating Rarepons, upgrading equipment, and cooking stews all require specific resources. This guide covers where to get each material type and how to farm efficiently.

Material Types and Sourcesโ€‹

Patapon 1 has exactly five material categories. Hides, Bones and Fangs are Patapon 2 categories and do not exist here, so nothing in this game drops them.

Material CategoryWhere to Get It
MeatUbo Bon minigame, hunting missions, Ciokina and Cioking boss drops. Mystery Meat comes from Gorl
Branch (Wood)Ubo Bon minigame, hunting missions, Dodonga, Majidonga, Zaknel and Dokaknel. Super Cedar from Ciokina, Shookle and Gorl
Mineral (Ore)Rumble Thump and Ubo Bon minigames, hunting animals, Gaeen/Dogaeen and Zaknel/Dokaknel. Mytheerial is effectively boss-only
VegetablePop Bean minigame, Shookle and Shooshookle boss drops
AlloyFwoosh Famooze minigame, Parcheeks on hunting maps, Gaeen and Dogaeen. Magic Alloy comes only from the anvil or a boss
Ka-ching (currency)Hunting missions and boss defeats

Kaching Farmingโ€‹

Kaching is your primary currency. You spend it at the Tree of Life to create units and on equipment. Early-game Kaching shortages are common.

Best Kaching Methodsโ€‹

Early Game:

  1. "Search for a Lucky Star" with no rain. This is the classic early farm and it is worth doing precisely. Kill the Picheek and the lucky star, Hoshipon, pops out. Then stand completely still and issue no commands at all. Hoshipon keeps dropping Ka-ching until the mission ends, and a clean run finishes with 800 or more. Marching or attacking cuts it short. There is also a Gold Motiti a little to the right of the Picheek.
  2. Replay "Hunting on Patata Plain". The game's first mission. Kacheeks and Mochichis drop small amounts of Ka-ching. Quick, but the amounts are tiny next to Lucky Star.

Mid-to-Late Game:

  1. Boss farming. Every boss drops Ka-ching alongside materials. Combine Ka-ching farming with material farming by replaying bosses you can beat quickly.
info

Patapon 1 minigames do not charge a Ka-ching entry fee. Each one costs a material to play: Ubo Bon takes 1 Leather Meat, Pop Bean 1 Banal Branch, Rumble Thump 1 Tender Meat, Simmer Slurp 1 Eyeball Cabbage, and Fwoosh Famooze one mineral. The 50, 100 and 150 Ka-ching costs you may have read about belong to Patapon 2's three difficulty levels.

tip

You will see a "flower trick" recommended, where you shoot background flowers for Ka-ching. Flowers, fruit and bee hives on hunting stages genuinely can drop Ka-ching when hit, so the mechanic is real. What does not work is aiming at them: they are not targetable, and you only clip them incidentally while attacking a nearby animal. Treat it as a bonus, not a method.

tip

Do not spend Ka-ching on units you do not plan to use in your active army. Every unit creation costs resources. Focus your Ka-ching on your three main squads.

Boss Stagger Farmingโ€‹

This is the most efficient way to get high-tier materials in the late game. Staggering a boss makes it drop an item, on top of whatever it gives you when it dies, so the goal is to stagger it as many times as possible before it falls over.

Stagger rate is a real stat and you can see it on your equipment screens as CNC, short for concussion. Both your weapon and your Rarepon contribute to it. The exact internal threshold model is not documented anywhere, so treat "more CNC and more hits equals more drops" as the working rule instead of trusting any published formula.

The Drop Systemโ€‹

Drop quality rises with the boss's level, but every boss keeps some chance at good materials even at Level 1, so a low-level boss you can kill quickly is not a wasted run. You will see a specific "above Level 10" threshold quoted for Level 4 materials. No source supports that number, and the honest version is simply that higher levels are better.

The Setupโ€‹

  1. Use low-damage weapons. Equip your army with the weakest weapons you have. Wooden bows are the classic choice. You want to deal just enough damage to trigger staggers, not enough to kill.
  2. Use high-CNC Rarepons. Mogyuun on Dekapons has the highest stagger rate in Patapon 1, at +80% for Dekapons specifically. Be aware of the cost: Mogyuun also carries -30% attack speed, so you land fewer hits per measure. Pyokola is the lighter alternative at +50% for Dekapons with no speed penalty.
  3. Bring the Earthquake Miracle. This is the piece most farm setups skip. Earthquake staggers most bosses outright, which turns a stagger farm from a damage-pacing exercise into something you can trigger on demand. You get it from Cioking.
  4. Bring Yumipons for pickup range. Materials drop on the ground. Yumipons positioned at the back can pick up drops without disrupting your stagger rotation.
  5. Stay in Fever Mode. Fever raises your attack rate, landing more stagger hits per measure.

Best Bosses for Farmingโ€‹

BossWhy Farm ItTarget Materials
CiokingVery easy to stagger. This is one of its defining weaknesses.Meats, Super Cedar, Mytheerial
DodongaThe fastest boss to kill repeatedly, and the lowest risk.Dream Meat, minerals, branches
DogaeenThe best single source of Level 4 materials outside Gorl.Mytheerial, Magic Alloy, Awesome Alloy
ShookleThe vegetable boss. This is where Simmer Slurp ingredients come from.Vegetables, Mytheerial, Super Cedar
GorlDrops Level 4 materials disproportionately often, and rarely anything low.Mystery Meat, Mytheerial, Super Cedar, Magic Alloy
warning

Shooshookle is the exception to all of this. It has a Stagger Retaliation move, so it punishes you every time your stagger lands. Farm it for vegetables if you must, but expect to take damage for each drop.

Step-by-Step Stagger Farmโ€‹

  1. Equip low-damage weapons on all units.
  2. Enter the boss mission.
  3. Build Fever Mode on the approach (March commands until you reach the boss).
  4. Switch to Attack when the boss appears. Your low-damage hits will stagger before they kill.
  5. Defend or Retreat through boss attacks to maintain Fever.
  6. Collect dropped materials between attack phases.
  7. The boss eventually dies from accumulated damage. Collect final drops and repeat.
tip

Charge is worth more here than the usual "never Charge while farming" advice suggests. On a Dekapon, Charge triggers NoshiNoshizugan, a ground slam that damages and stuns nearby enemies, which is exactly what you want from a stagger farm. On classes whose charged attack is mostly a damage bump, hold it back so you do not end the fight early.

Material-to-Rarepon Quick Referenceโ€‹

Use this table to plan which materials to farm for the Rarepon you want:

Farming Priorities by Game Stageโ€‹

Early Game (Missions 1-10)โ€‹

  • Run hunting missions for Ka-ching and basic materials.
  • Play Ubo Bon and Rumble Thump for branches and minerals.
  • Create Gekolos Rarepons for your Tatepons. Gekolos grants immunity to ignition, which matters against Dodonga and Majidonga.

Mid Game (Missions 11-20)โ€‹

  • Start boss stagger farming Dodonga and Ciokina for Level 2 and 3 materials.
  • Play Fwoosh Famooze for alloys to upgrade equipment.
  • Create Tikulee Rarepons for your ranged units, remembering that Tikulee adds attack speed and crit but no damage.
  • Cook King's Stews before difficult boss fights.

Late Game (Missions 21+)โ€‹

  • Farm Dogaeen, Cioking and Gorl for Level 4 materials.
  • Target Baasara Rarepons for your primary damage dealers.
  • Work on the "Divine Collection" achievement at the anvil, not on bosses. See below.
warning

Divine equipment does not drop from bosses. The nine Divine items for the Divine Collection achievement come from the Fwoosh Famooze anvil minigame run with Mytheerial, where a perfect run awards a Divine item the first nine times, one per equipment type. After that the anvil only returns Magic Alloys. Grinding boss replays for Divine gear will never complete this achievement, so farm Mytheerial from Dogaeen, Cioking, Shookle or Gorl and spend it at the anvil.

Frequently Asked Questionsโ€‹

How does boss stagger farming actually work?

Staggering a boss makes it drop an item, on top of what it drops when it dies, so you want as many staggers as possible before it falls. Stagger rate shows on your equipment screens as CNC, and both your weapon and your Rarepon feed into it. The exact internal threshold is undocumented, so treat more CNC and more hits as the working rule.

What is the best stagger farming setup in Patapon 1?

Equip the weakest weapons you own, run Dekapons with Mogyuun for the highest stagger rate, keep Yumipons at the back to collect drops, and stay in Fever. Bring the Earthquake Miracle from Cioking, which staggers most bosses on demand. Note Mogyuun also costs you 30 percent attack speed, so Pyokola is a reasonable lighter alternative.

Should I use Charge into Attack while farming?

On Dekapons, yes. Charge triggers NoshiNoshizugan, a ground slam that damages and stuns, which is exactly what a stagger farm wants. On classes whose charged attack is just a damage bump, hold it back so you do not end the fight early.

What is the best early-game Ka-ching farm?

Search for a Lucky Star with no rain. Kill the Picheek to make Hoshipon appear, then stand completely still and issue no commands. It keeps dropping Ka-ching until the mission ends, and a clean run finishes with 800 or more.

How do I get Level 4 materials?

Farm bosses at higher levels, since drop quality rises with boss level. Dogaeen, Cioking, Shookle and Gorl are the reliable Level 4 sources. Ignore the widely quoted Level 10 threshold, which no source supports.
