Minigames (Patapon 1)
Patapon 1 has five rhythm minigames: Ubo Bon, Pop Bean, Rumble Thump, Simmer Slurp, and Fwoosh Famooze. Each one unlocks by finding a special hat item during a specific story mission. They are your primary source of crafting materials, weapon alloys, and stat-boosting stews between boss runs.
Patapon 1 has five rhythm-based minigames. Each one is unlocked by finding a special hat item during specific story missions. Minigames are your primary source of crafting materials, weapon alloys, and stat-boosting stews between boss runs.
Every minigame follows the same basic format: listen for the "HAI!" shout that signals your starting beat, then input rhythm commands to perform the minigame's task. Better rhythm means better rewards.
The minigames sit on the same beat grid as combat, which is genuinely useful. The Miracle ritual uses the same pattern as part of Ubo Bon, so practicing the tree is practicing your Miracle timing.
Entry Costsโ
Each minigame costs a material to play, not Ka-ching:
| Minigame | Cost to Play |
|---|---|
| Ubo Bon | 1 Leather Meat |
| Pop Bean | 1 Banal Branch |
| Rumble Thump | 1 Tender Meat |
| Simmer Slurp | 1 Eyeball Cabbage |
| Fwoosh Famooze | 1 mineral (Hard Iron or better) |
Scoringโ
Minigames grade you on timing accuracy, and each one converts your accuracy into rewards its own way and never through a shared tier table. Simmer Slurp grades on how many chops you missed. Ubo Bon and Rumble Thump reward reaching deeper stages. Fwoosh Famooze grades the whole run.
Patapon 1 minigame output caps at Level 3 materials, with the anvil as the exception. If you want Level 4 materials, farm bosses.
Patapon 1 minigames have no difficulty levels. Each one has a single input sequence and a single cost. The three-tier system, where two flawless runs unlock the next level and the game tells you not to be surprised if you get a new rhythm next time, is a Patapon 2 feature. Five of these minigames carry over to Patapon 2, but their input sequences were reworked there, so the patterns you memorize here will not transfer note for note.
Ubo Bon (The Tree)โ
Character: Pan Pakapon Rewards: Wood, Meat, Fangs, Hides, Bones
How to Unlockโ
Destroy the tombstone during the "Escape from Isolation" mission. You receive the Pakapon Hat, which unlocks this minigame back at base.
How It Worksโ
You chop a tree by pressing buttons on the beat. Each successful hit knocks materials loose. The tree has multiple stages. Landing consistent Perfect hits progresses you through higher stages, which yield rarer materials.
Tipsโ
- Focus on maintaining rhythm, not speed. The game rewards streak length, not how fast you press.
- Higher-tier materials only drop from the final stages, so you need clean runs to reach them.
- This is your main source of branch materials early on, and it also produces minerals.
- Its rhythm pattern is the one the Miracle ritual reuses, so time spent here pays off twice.
Pop Bean (The Farmer)โ
Character: Fah Zakpon Rewards: Vegetables, mixed materials
How to Unlockโ
During the "Creatures of the Sand" mission, use the Rain Miracle. After the rain starts, defeat the Gancheek that appears. It drops the Zakpon Hat.
How It Worksโ
You plant and harvest crops by following rhythm prompts. Seeds grow through stages based on your input quality. Fully grown crops yield the best materials.
Tipsโ
- Rain Miracle is required to unlock this minigame. If you have not unlocked Rain yet, you cannot get the Zakpon Hat.
- The crop quality depends on consecutive perfect hits during the growing phase. Missing a beat resets the growth stage.
- Vegetables from this minigame are used in the cooking minigame (Simmer Slurp) for stew ingredients.
Rumble Thump (The Mountain)โ
Character: Kon Kimpon Rewards: Minerals (Stone, Hard Iron, Tytanium Ore)
How to Unlockโ
In the "Sandy Paradise" mission, defeat the Poocheek (a beetle-type creature). It drops the Kimpon Hat.
How It Worksโ
You mine ore deposits by drumming in time with the rhythm. Each correct beat cracks the rock further. Deeper layers contain rarer ores.
Tipsโ
- This is a strong mineral source, but not the only one. Ubo Bon also produces minerals, and Kacheeks, Motiti and Sand Kacheeks drop them on hunting maps.
- Its Patapon 1 output tops out at Tytanium Ore. Mytheerial does not come from this minigame, so farm bosses for it.
- The rhythm here is four fixed sequences at a steady tempo. It does not accelerate as you dig, whatever you may have read. The minigame that speeds up is Fwoosh Famooze.
Simmer Slurp (The Cooking Pot)โ
Character: Rah Gashapon Rewards: Stews (stat buffs consumed before missions)
How to Unlockโ
In the "A World of Ooze" mission, defeat the Parcheek (a yellow crab-type creature). It drops the Gashapon Hat.
How It Worksโ
You chop ingredients that fall toward a giant cooking pot. Press the button when the ingredient reaches the knife. The timing is visual, not purely rhythmic. Successful chops add quality to the stew. Missed ingredients reduce quality.
Stew Quality Tiersโ
Stew quality depends entirely on how many chops you miss. There is no difficulty setting here to raise the ceiling.
| Missed Chops | Stew | HP Bonus | Damage Bonus | Other Effects |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 or more | Gnarly Stew | +20 | None | None |
| 2 | Tasty Stew | +40 | +1 | +10% knockback and stagger resistance |
| 1 | King's Stew | +60 | +2 | +10% critical rate, plus crit, knockback and stagger resistance |
| 0 (perfect) | Divine Stew | +100 | +5 | +20% critical rate, +10% knockback and stagger rate, broad resistances, an armor increase, and a fire element added to your attacks |
Only one stew can be equipped at a time, and it is consumed when you complete a mission.
Patapon 1 tops out at Divine Stew. Demon Stew is Patapon 2 only, earned from a perfect Level 3 run of the same minigame there. There is no "Basic Stew" in either game.
Tipsโ
- This minigame is more about visual timing than pure rhythm. Watch the ingredient's position relative to the knife, not the background beat.
- Missing a single chop costs you the Divine Stew, so it is worth restarting early if you fumble the first ingredient.
- Each play costs 1 Eyeball Cabbage, a Level 1 vegetable from Pop Bean or from Shookle. No meat is involved.
- Stews are consumed after one mission. Cook fresh before every boss attempt if you need the boost.
Save your King's and Divine Stews for boss fights and late-game missions. Using them on hunting missions or early story missions wastes the stat boost. A Gnarly or Tasty Stew is fine for routine farming.
Fwoosh Famooze (The Anvil)โ
Character: Ton Kampon Rewards: Alloys, weapons
How to Unlockโ
This one takes two visits to "Search for a Lucky Star", both while it is not raining. The first trip, killing the Picheek, gets you the Black Star. On a later no-rain run you talk to Hoshipon and receive the Kampon Hat.
How It Worksโ
You hammer metal on an anvil to the beat, feeding in a mineral. The quality of your rhythm determines the output. Every so often Fwoosh Famooze quenches the alloy in a water tub, and the tempo speeds up afterwards, so the back half of a run is harder than the front.
Alloy Tiersโ
Alloys are their own material category, separate from the minerals you feed in:
| Alloy | Material Level | Used For |
|---|---|---|
| Sloppy Alloy | 1 | Basic equipment |
| Hard Alloy | 2 | Mid-tier equipment |
| Awesome Alloy | 3 | High-tier equipment |
| Magic Alloy | 4 | Top-tier equipment and Baasara Rarepons |
This is where the Divine Collection achievement actually comes from. Run the anvil with Mytheerial and a perfect run awards a Divine item, once per equipment type, for the first nine. That is the nine Divine items the achievement asks for. After those nine, perfect Mytheerial runs only return Magic Alloys. No boss in Patapon 1 drops Divine equipment, so replaying bosses for it will never finish this achievement.
Tipsโ
- Alloys also drop from Parcheeks, the crabs you hunt in "A World of Ooze" and "Search for a Lucky Star", so the anvil is not your only source. Magic Alloy is the tier that really is anvil-or-boss.
- Weapons crafted here can beat boss drops for specific classes. Check the output before equipping.
General Minigame Tipsโ
- Calibrate your audio. If your TV has audio delay, the remaster's calibration settings apply to minigames too. A miscalibrated setup makes Perfect hits almost impossible.
- Play minigames between missions, not just when you need materials. A steady flow of materials prevents bottlenecks when you want to create Rarepons or upgrade equipment.
- Higher-tier materials require near-perfect runs. There is no per-minigame difficulty to drop to in Patapon 1, so the only lever is practice. Ubo Bon is the best one to drill, since its pattern doubles as Miracle practice.
- Track what you need. Before grinding a minigame, check what materials your target Rarepon or equipment upgrade requires. The Unit Classes and Rarepons guide has the full material table.
Frequently Asked Questionsโ
How do you unlock the Patapon 1 minigames?
Each minigame unlocks when you find its hat item during a specific story mission. Destroying the tombstone in Escape from Isolation gives the Pakapon Hat for Ubo Bon, and defeating the Poocheek in Sandy Paradise gives the Kimpon Hat for Rumble Thump.
How do I unlock the harder minigame difficulties?
There are none in Patapon 1. Each minigame has one input sequence and one cost. The three-level system, where two flawless runs unlock the next tier, belongs to Patapon 2.
Which minigame gives alloys?
Fwoosh Famooze, the anvil run by Ton Kampon, producing Sloppy, Hard, Awesome and Magic Alloy based on your rhythm quality. Parcheeks on hunting maps also drop the lower alloy tiers, so the anvil is not your only source.
Which stew should I cook before a boss fight?
King's Stew or better, which means missing at most one chop. King's gives +60 HP and +2 damage, and a perfect run gives Divine Stew at +100 HP and +5 damage plus a fire element on your attacks. Only one stew can be equipped, and it is consumed when you complete the mission.
How do I get the nine Divine items for Divine Collection?
From the Fwoosh Famooze anvil, not from bosses. Run it with Mytheerial and a perfect run awards a Divine item, one per equipment type, for the first nine. No Patapon 1 boss drops Divine equipment.
Why can I not unlock Pop Bean?
Pop Bean requires the Rain Miracle, which you get from Majidonga. During the Creatures of the Sand mission, use Rain, then defeat the Gancheek that appears to get the Zakpon Hat.
