Materials and Farming (Patapon 2)

Tactical Quick Answer

Patapon 2's Evolution Map eats materials far faster than Patapon 1's crafting system, and Ka-ching is the real bottleneck. Paragate runs and the Bell minigame give the highest raw income, since every Parachi converts to 5 Ka-ching when you exit. For materials, stagger bosses using Menyokki for stagger rate and Mashu for status effects, with the weakest wooden weapons, because a stagger landed on a boss that is asleep or knocked back guarantees a better material.

Patapon 2's Evolution Map eats materials at a much higher rate than Patapon 1's crafting system. Every unit has its own evolution path, and each step costs materials and Kaching. On top of that, equipment upgrades, stew cooking, and Mask farming through the Paragate all compete for your resources. This guide covers where to get everything and how to farm without wasting time.

Material Types and Sourcesโ€‹

Patapon 2 has ten material categories, and each boss family supplies one of them:

warning

Seeds are the real bottleneck, not juices. Seeds are the only category with no minigame behind them, they come solely from Gancheeks and the Shookle family, and they gate Mahopon and Toripon evolutions. If your Evolution Map progress stalls in Patapon 2, seeds are usually why.

Kaching Farmingโ€‹

Kaching is the bottleneck in Patapon 2. Evolution Map steps, minigame entry fees, and equipment all cost Kaching. Here are the best methods, ranked by efficiency.

Tier 1: Fastest Methodsโ€‹

Kururu Beruru, the Bell Minigame

The Bell takes materials as its entry cost and pays out in Ka-ching. The rarer the materials you feed it and the better you play, the more you get, ranging from a few dozen up to one or two thousand per run. Grade 4 and 5 materials cannot be fed in at all.

This is the fastest way to turn a surplus of low-tier materials into money. It is not a material converter, so do not feed it Grade 1 stock hoping for Grade 2 and 3 back. You will get money and nothing else.

Paragate Parachi Conversion

Every Paragate run generates Parachi. When you exit, each Parachi converts to five Ka-ching. Spending 200 Parachi opens all the reward boxes, so banking them instead is the choice that maximizes money, and a good run lands around 1,000 Ka-ching.

The documented approach targets a low-health boss such as Centura or Mochichichi instead of a mid-tier one, since the run length is what costs you time.

Tier 2: Solid Methodsโ€‹

Boss Stagger Farming

Same concept as Patapon 1. Stagger bosses repeatedly with low-damage weapons for material drops. Each boss also drops Kaching on defeat. Combine Kaching and material farming in the same run.

Story Mission Replays

Replay early story missions with an over-leveled army for quick, guaranteed Kaching. Lower risk than Paragate, but lower reward.

Tier 3: Supplementalโ€‹

Hunting Missions

Decent early-game Kaching, but outclassed by Paragate and boss farming once you progress. Still useful for combining Kaching income with material drops from animals.

Boss Stagger Farming (Patapon 2)โ€‹

Staggering a boss always drops a material. The Patapon 2 refinement is the part that matters: if the boss is asleep, knocked back or frozen when the stagger lands, that stagger guarantees a Grade 3 or better material. Status plus stagger is the whole technique.

Optimal Stagger Setupโ€‹

  1. Hero class: Yumipon running Menyokki, with an attack-speed mask. A Yumipon Hero fires repeatedly per command and stays out of melee range, and that is why it beats a melee Hero here.
  2. Keep Fever up. More attacks per measure means more staggers. Do not deliberately play badly.
  3. Army weapons: Wooden starter weapons across all units, so the boss survives long enough to be staggered repeatedly.
  4. Army Rarepons: Menyokki on your attackers, which at level 10 carries +500 HP and +200% Cnc, the stagger stat. Add Mashu to the mix, which has the highest knockback and sleep ratios in the game, so it supplies the status effect that upgrades every stagger.
  5. Ranged pickup: Kibapons sweep up drops efficiently with their charge.

The Menyokki Stagger Lockโ€‹

This is the standard endgame material farm and it genuinely works. Weak weapons keep the boss alive, high Cnc staggers it repeatedly, and every stagger drops something.

Two things are easy to miss. First, Menyokki without Mashu is half the technique, since the status effect is what guarantees the good materials. Second, Menyokki at maximum level carries -80% ignite resistance, so a full Menyokki army will be slaughtered on Dodonga or Fennichi. Mix your squads and pick your bosses.

Best Bosses for P2 Farmingโ€‹

Each boss family supplies one material category, so you farm the boss whose category you need and not the one that survives longest:

BossGives YouNotes
DodongaMineralsFast and low risk, but avoid a full Menyokki army here because of the fire.
ManbothMeatsVulnerable to fire, so it dies faster than its bulk suggests.
KanogiasAlloysThe boss-side alloy source, alongside Ganodias.
GarlHidesAlso the Goruru family's category.
ShookleSeedsThe only seed source in the game outside Gancheeks. Non-negotiable if you want Mahopons or Toripons.
Ciokina / CiokingJuicesDrops juices at every tier, which makes them a real alternative to the Juice Machine.

Paragate Farmingโ€‹

The Paragate is your endgame farming loop. It provides Masks, rare materials, and Parachi (Kaching). Here is how to optimize it.

Paragate Farm Loopโ€‹

  1. Select a boss you can clear consistently. Consistency beats difficulty. A 5-minute clear on a mid-tier boss is better than a 20-minute clear with two wipes on a hard boss.
  2. Use a Robopon Hero for maximum damage speed.
  3. Equip your best offensive Mask.
  4. Kill the boss as quickly as possible. Collect Masks and materials from the reward pool.
  5. Exit the Paragate to convert all Parachi to Kaching at a strict rate of 5 Kaching per 1 Parachi.
  6. Repeat.

Optimal Paragate Targetsโ€‹

Split your runs by what you actually want out of them:

  • Ka-ching farming: target a low-health egg boss such as Centura or Mochichichi. The limiting factor is run length, not boss difficulty, and the Parachi conversion pays the same either way. Bank your Parachi instead of opening boxes.
  • Material farming: run the Menyokki and Mashu stagger setup described above, with weak weapons, against the boss family whose material category you need.
warning

Dettankarmen and Zuttankarmen are not material farms. They drop large amounts of Ka-ching and rare equipment instead, so running them for evolution materials wastes the trip. Note also that Mogyugyu is the slowest Rarepon in the game, which makes it a poor choice for any speed-farming build.

Mask Targetingโ€‹

Masks are not a drop table you fish in. Every egg holds a fixed four-level mask line, and clearing that egg levels it up and hands you the next mask in sequence. If you want a specific mask, farm its egg repeatedly. The lines and their eggs are listed in Hero Mode.

Minigame Farming Priorityโ€‹

Not all minigames are equal. Here is the order you should focus on:

Must-Playโ€‹

  1. Ton Kampon at the anvil - Alloys are required for every equipment tier and several Evolution Map branches, and flawless Level 2 and Level 3 runs award Divine and Demon equipment. Nothing else does both.
  2. Shuraba Yapon at the Bell - Your best Ka-ching earner, turning surplus materials into money.

High Priorityโ€‹

  1. Rah Gashapon (Cooking) - Cook before every difficult mission. Note the strongest stew, Demon Stew, needs a perfect Level 3 run.
  2. Fah Zakpon at Pop Bean - The dedicated vegetable source. Nothing else supplies them in bulk.

As Neededโ€‹

  1. Pan Pakapon (Tree) - Wood and meats when you need them. Boss farming often covers these.
  2. Kon Kimpon (Mountain) - Minerals, which feed straight into the anvil.
  3. Tsun Tsukupon (Juice Machine) - Useful, but less essential than its reputation. Ciokina and Cioking drop juices at every tier, and hunting animals drop them too.

Evolution Map Material Requirementsโ€‹

Node-by-node Ka-ching costs have never been published, so treat any exact cost table you find with suspicion, including tiers labeled with Pyokola or Gekolos, which are Patapon 1 Rarepons and do not appear in Patapon 2 at all.

What is documented is the material side. Patapon 2 uses five material tiers, and the three terminal Rarepons cost this much in total to take from level 1 to level 10:

UltimateMaterial TiersTotal Quantities
Babassa (Sabara)5, 4, 3, 315, 18, 15, 9
Mogyugyu (Mogyu)4, 5, 3, 418, 15, 15, 6
Wagyanba (Gyaba)5, 5, 4, 415, 15, 12, 6

Which material types those tiers translate to depends on the unit's class, not on the Rarepon, so the same node costs a Yumipon and a Tatepon different things.

Key Takeawaysโ€‹

  • Focus on one unit at a time. Evolving three units at once drains you across too many material types. Max one, then move on.
  • Unlock class Memories first. Toripon, Robopon and Mahopon are the highest-impact milestones. One unit reaching the node unlocks the class army-wide, so you never need a second.
  • Save your top-tier materials for the Ultimates. Do not spend Grade 4 and 5 materials on intermediate nodes.
tip

If you are short on a specific material type, check the boss drop table in the Boss Guide before grinding minigames. Some materials drop more efficiently from specific bosses than from any minigame.

Farming Priorities by Game Stageโ€‹

Early Game (Missions 1-10)โ€‹

  • Play minigames to unlock Level 2. Two mistake-free runs on each Level 1 minigame.
  • Run hunting missions for Ka-ching and basic materials.
  • Evolve your first Tatepons to Buhyokko for knockback immunity.

Mid Game (Missions 11-20)โ€‹

  • Focus on the anvil for alloys and the Bell for Ka-ching.
  • Start boss stagger farming, matching the boss to the material category you need.
  • Push toward Toripon's and Robopon's Memories on the Evolution Map.
  • Farm Shookle for seeds early, since seeds have no minigame source and gate Mahopon and Toripon.
  • Cook a stew before every boss fight.

Late Game (Missions 21+)โ€‹

  • Paragate becomes your farming loop for Masks and Ka-ching.
  • Target Babassa on your primary damage units.
  • Build Menyokki and Mashu squads for material farming.
  • Use the Bell to turn surplus materials into Ka-ching.

Post-Game / Achievement Huntingโ€‹

  • Complete all three Evolution Map achievements by unlocking every Memory on the Yaripon, Tatepon and Yumipon maps.
  • Farm Paragate eggs whose mask lines you still want, since progression is sequential and not random.
  • Target Divinely Dangerous and Demonically Dangerous at the anvil. Flawless Level 2 and Level 3 runs of Ton Kampon award Divine and Demon equipment, which is a far more reliable route than hoping for boss drops.

Speedrun Strategiesโ€‹

Speedrunners do not ignore the Evolution Map. The established route uses it deliberately, just selectively: of the Rarepons available, only about five matter to a run, and they are Pyopyo, Buhyokko, Wanda, Menyokki and Nyontama. Menyokki is taken purely to unlock Megapon's Memory, and its stats are irrelevant to the route.

The damage core is a Dekapon Hero carrying the Heaven Club, running Nyontama or Wanda, with a squad of Yumipons, Yaripons and either Kibapons or Tatepons behind it. Mogyu and Mogyugyu do not feature in the route at all, which makes sense given Mogyu has the slowest attack speed in the game.

info

There is a widely circulated "Piekron damage multiplier glitch" describing sixteen stacked Hero Modes producing a 65,536x multiplier. Piekron is not a Patapon 2 class. It is a Patapon 3 Uberhero, and Patapon 3 is not part of this collection. Its real ability, Concentrate, is a linear team damage buff capped at 2x, or about 3.5x with the right Set Skills, and Patapon 3's co-op tops out at four players, so sixteen simultaneous Piekrons was never possible either. There is no such exploit in Patapon 2.

Endgame Team Buildingโ€‹

There is no community-agreed "proven" endgame composition. What the underlying stats support is this:

RoleReasonable PickWhy
FrontlineTatepon with Mofu or BuhyokkoMofu carries +400 HP with immunity to critical hits, knockback and stagger. Buhyokko is the cheaper knockback-immune option.
DamageYaripon with Babassa+400% crit ratio is the highest on the map.
BacklineYumipon with Menyokki for farming, Chiku or Fumya for speedMenyokki is the stagger build. Chiku and Fumya are the attack-speed builds.
HeroMegapon or Robopon for damage, Tatepon for survivalIcicles of Death is the strongest Hero Mode, with Tornado Punch behind it.
warning

Wagyanba is not an elemental absorber. It halves damage from everything except fire, ice and electricity, which hit it normally. That is the opposite of its reputation among players, and on elemental stages a Koppen or Nyontama build will serve you better. Mogyugyu is likewise the slowest Rarepon in the game and never a speed option, so put it on a unit that does not need to swing often.

Frequently Asked Questionsโ€‹

What is the fastest Ka-ching farm in Patapon 2?

Paragate runs against a low-health egg boss such as Centura or Mochichichi, banking your Parachi instead of opening reward boxes. Each Parachi converts to 5 Ka-ching on exit and a good run lands around 1,000. The Bell minigame is the other strong earner, turning surplus materials into money.

What is the Menyokki stagger lock?

You equip the weakest wooden weapons so the boss survives, and stack Menyokki for its +200 percent Cnc stagger rate. The easy part to miss is Mashu, which supplies sleep and knockback. A stagger landed while the boss has a status effect guarantees a Grade 3 or better material, so Menyokki without Mashu is only half the technique.

Should I use Hero Mode while stagger farming?

Yes, and keep Fever up too. The documented setup is a Yumipon Hero running Menyokki with an attack-speed mask, because it fires repeatedly per command and stays clear of melee. More attacks means more staggers, so deliberately playing slowly works against you.

Where do I get alloys in Patapon 2?

The Ton Kampon anvil, which forges minerals into alloys, and the Kanogias and Ganodias boss family. Note that minerals and alloys are separate categories: Iron, Titanium Ore and Adamanman go in, and Sloppy, Hard, Awesome and Magic Alloy plus Demon's Ore come out.

Which Rarepon should my frontline use?

Mofu, for +400 HP and immunity to critical hits, knockback and stagger, or Buhyokko as the cheaper knockback-immune option. Avoid building a frontline around Wagyanba expecting elemental protection, since it halves everything except fire, ice and electricity.
