Tools and Hardware​

You need tools to barricade windows, fix cars, and build your base.

  • Hardware Stores: The holy grail for tools. You will find sledgehammers, crowbars, axes, nails, and saws here.
  • Warehouses: Large industrial warehouses contain dozens of crates. You can find massive stacks of nails, farming equipment, and heavy weapons.
  • Garages: Residential garages behind houses usually contain basic tools like hammers, screwdrivers, and sometimes generators.
  • Vehicle Trunks: Check the trunks of utility vehicles and pickup trucks for mechanics tools, lug wrenches, and jacks.

Books and Magazines​

Skill books multiply your XP gains. Recipe magazines teach you how to use generators, craft herbal medicine, and fix cars.

  • Bookstores: Contain hundreds of books across all skill categories.
  • Schools: The library in any school is packed with skill books.
  • Post Offices: The back rooms often spawn large quantities of books and magazines.
  • Mailboxes: Check residential mailboxes for magazines. The "How to Use Generators" magazine frequently spawns here.

Food and Water​

When the power shuts off, fresh food rots. You need non-perishables.

  • Grocery Stores: Massive stockpiles of canned food, cereal, and chips.
  • Gas Stations: Great for snacks and drinks. Also the only place to get fuel once you have a generator.
  • Kitchens: Residential houses contain plenty of canned goods. Check the cupboards, not just the fridge.

Medical Supplies​

You need bandages, disinfectants, and painkillers to survive injuries.

  • Pharmacies: Contain everything you need, including beta blockers and sleeping pills.
  • Clinics and Hospitals: Massive quantities of medical gear, but usually overrun with zombies.
  • Bathrooms: Residential bathroom cabinets reliably spawn painkillers, bandages, and tweezers.
  • Ambulances: Check the trunks of crashed ambulances on the highway for trauma bags and first aid kits.

Always carry a sterilized bandage, a bottle of disinfectant, and painkillers in your main inventory, not your backpack. When you get a deep wound, every second matters.
