Providence Boss Fight
The final stage, the UES Contact Light, abandons the standard teleporter mechanics in favor of a structured gauntlet leading up to the game's ultimate confrontation with Providence.
The UES Contact Light
This stage utilizes a unique pacing mechanic divergent from standard teleporter events. To reach the bridge, you must navigate blast doors that require holding out against localized 30-second waves of enemies to open.
Simultaneously, you should search the ship's cargo areas for four hidden Keycards. These Keycards grant access to invaluable armory and medical bays, allowing you to secure final equipment upgrades and healing before initiating the final encounter.
Phase 1: The Initial Duel
The fight against Providence demands absolute spatial awareness. He initiates combat with aggressive physical shockwaves and a teleporting downward sword thrust that you must swiftly dodge.
Watch for his telegraphs: blue projectiles and floor rings indicating imminent detonation zones. Keep moving and prioritize dodging his melee strikes over maximizing your damage output.
Phase 2: The Gilded Wurms
Providence vanishes from the arena, summoning a Red and Blue Gilded Wurm.
- The Red Wurm: Fires directed lasers telegraphed by ground indicators. You must anticipate the beam path and stay out of the painted zones.
- The Blue Wurm: Fires cascading projectiles across the arena. You must vault or dash through these projectiles utilizing your survivor's invulnerability frames (i-frames).
Focus fire on one Wurm at a time to reduce the overall screen clutter and incoming damage pressure.
Phase 3: Sentinels and Shadows
Providence returns alongside two heavily armed robot sentinels and occasionally spawns shadow clones of himself. These clones duplicate his phase one attack patterns, drastically increasing the threat density.
You must neutralize the sentinels immediately. If you leave them alive while trying to duel Providence, the combined crossfire will inevitably overwhelm your defenses. Clear the adds, manage the clones, and chip away at Providence.
Phase 4: The Final Dance
In this Returns-exclusive fourth phase, Providence unleashes massive, slow-moving green vertical lasers that sweep across the arena. These lasers inflict rapid, extreme damage and will instantly vaporize careless players.
Navigating the gaps between these sweeping beams while continuously damaging Providence is paramount. Crucially, you must understand the programmatic difference between defensive buffs: "Invincibility" (like Loader's Debris Shield) protects against the lasers, but standard "Immunity" or "Invisibility" effects do not. You must rely on sheer evasion, precise positioning, and time-altering equipment like the Unstable Watch to survive the Final Dance.
