Sea of Thieves Achievements: World Events and Tall Tales

Tactical Quick Answer

This group splits into two very different halves. World event achievements are contested, since every crew on the server sees the same sky signal, and Tentacled Tribute sits at 0.1 percent global unlock, a Custom Seas achievement rare mainly because the mode arrived in June 2026. Tall Tale achievements are the opposite: every campaign is unlocked and playable in any order since patch 2.10.1, and all of them work in Safer Seas, so the story half of this group can be cleared with no PvP risk at all.

The two halves of this group want completely opposite things from you. One wants you contested and fast. The other wants you alone and patient.

The rare ones

AchievementGlobal unlockAdded with
Tentacled Tribute0.1%Season 20, Custom Seas
Defender of the Pirate's Life0.2%Season 13
Playing the Part0.2%Season 13

Tentacled Tribute asks you to slay the Kraken while at Tribute Peak during a Custom Seas session. It arrived with Season 20 in June 2026, and a Session Owner can stage it directly by spawning the Kraken at the Legendary Location, so its 0.1 percent measures how new Custom Seas is, not how dangerous the Kraken is.

Defender of the Pirate's Life ties to the A Pirate's Life campaign, the five-chapter Pirates of the Caribbean crossover.

Playing the Part got dramatically cheaper. Patch 3.8.1 cut it to a single Burning Blade returned with 8 or more Rituals, down from ten Burning Blades returned. That is a one-session objective now instead of a months-long one, and the 0.2 percent figure above predates the change.

The same patch reworked Feeding the Fire so it progresses while you keep going instead of only at the payout. It now completes by reaching a streak of 4 Rituals, or by completing Rituals after reaching that streak while in command of the Burning Blade.

The rebalance shipped with a knock-on defect, and patch 3.8.2 fixed it. Completing the new Playing the Part requirements did not advance the Loyalist of the Flame Commendation, which now progresses correctly. Check that track if you cleared Playing the Part between the two patches.

The world event half

EventWhat achievements here track
Skeleton FortClears, vault opens, Stronghold loot
Fort of FortuneThe red-cloud version, harder waves
Reaper FortressPhantom waves, Reaper's and Smugglers' loot
Skeleton FleetWave clears at sea
Fleet of FortuneThe red version. Not spawning during Season 20
Ghost FleetFlameheart's armada, Captain Skull of the Damned
Ashen WindsAshen Lords and the Ashen Winds Skull
Ashen GarrisonsServant's Oath and King's Chalice, Custodian of the Treasury kills
Burning BladeBoarding and commandeering Flameheart's flagship
KrakenTentacle kills and surviving encounters
MegalodonThe roaming shark variants

Most of these announce themselves to the whole server. Green signals are the standard version and red signals are the fortune version, and a red cloud will pull crews from across the map. The Ashen Garrisons are the exception alongside the Kraken, since they are fixed strongholds in The Devil's Roar with no signal at all.

Two things have changed about what you can chase right now. The Fleet of Fortune stopped spawning emergently for Season 20 in patch 3.8.0.1, and the five on-demand Raid Voyages were pulled from the Quest Table in patch 3.8.0, so a fort or fleet count has to come from an emergent event this season.

warning

World event achievements are the ones most often lost at the last moment. You clear the fort, open the vault, and then a Galleon that watched the whole thing takes the loot. Park your ship off the approach line and sell in batches instead of waiting for a full hold.

The Kraken problem

Most Kraken achievements ask you to do the opposite of the correct tactical play. The right move for a loaded ship is to sail out of the ink and keep going, because the Kraken does not chase and fighting it costs planks you will want later.

Chasing Kraken achievements means deliberately staying in the ink with an empty hold. Do it as a dedicated session and never alongside a treasure run, or you will lose the treasure run.

The Tall Tale half

Four campaigns plus the tutorial:

CampaignChapters
Shores of Gold9
A Pirate's Life5
The Legend of Monkey Island3
Ashen Age2
Maiden VoyageIntro, repeatable

All tales are unlocked and playable in any order since patch 2.10.1 in February 2024, and none have been vaulted. Both licensed crossovers are still fully available.

Each completion pays 8,000 gold, shared across an alliance and never divided.

Tall Tale achievements ask for the awkward runs

The first completion of a tale is the easy part. The achievements attached to commendations generally want something harder:

  • Completing a tale within a time limit.
  • Completing a tale solo.
  • Finding optional journals scattered through the chapters.

Read the commendation list before your second run. Doing a nine-chapter campaign twice because you did not know a journal existed is a long evening.

tip

Run every Tall Tale in Safer Seas. All four campaigns work there at identical payouts, and the timed and solo commendations are dramatically easier without another crew able to interrupt a two-hour run. This is the strongest argument for the mode at any skill level.

How to plan this group

Do the Tall Tale half first. It is entirely in your control, works in Safer Seas, and has a fixed and knowable amount of work.

Do the world event half in dedicated sessions. Empty hold, full resources, no other objectives. Mixing event achievement hunting with a treasure run means losing one to the other.

Bring a crew for the fort and fleet counts. Solo fort clears are possible and slow, and the waves scale in ways that reward more cannons.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the rarest world event achievement in Sea of Thieves?

Tentacled Tribute at 0.1 percent global unlock, a Custom Seas achievement asking you to slay the Kraken at Tribute Peak during a session. It is that rare mainly because Custom Seas arrived in June 2026, and a Session Owner who spawns the Kraken at the Legendary Location can stage the whole thing.

Can you get Tall Tale achievements in Safer Seas?

Yes, all of them. Every campaign works in Safer Seas at identical gold and commendation payouts, and the timed and solo commendations are far easier there because no other crew can interrupt a run that takes two hours.

Are any Tall Tales unavailable in Sea of Thieves?

No. All four campaigns plus the Maiden Voyage remain playable and none have been vaulted, including both licensed crossovers. Every tale has also been unlocked and playable in any order since patch 2.10.1 in February 2024.

How many chapters does each Tall Tale have?

Shores of Gold has nine, A Pirate's Life has five, The Legend of Monkey Island has three, and Ashen Age has two. The Maiden Voyage is a repeatable introductory tale and does not carry a chapter count.

Should you hunt world event achievements with treasure aboard?

No. Run them as dedicated sessions with an empty hold and full resources. Mixing achievement hunting with a treasure run usually costs you the treasure, since events broadcast your location to every crew on the server.

How many Burning Blades does Playing the Part need now?

One, returned with 8 or more Rituals. Patch 3.8.1 cut it down from ten Burning Blades returned, which turns a months-long objective into a single focused session. Feeding the Fire was reworked in the same patch to progress from a streak of 4 Rituals.

Can you still start a Skeleton Fort on demand for achievements?

Not during Season 20. Patch 3.8.0 removed all five on-demand World Event Raid Voyages from the Quest Table as a time-limited experiment, so fort and fleet counts have to come from emergent events that every other crew on the server can also see.
