Ginger Island and the Endgame

Tactical Quick Answer

Ginger Island opens after you complete either the Community Center or the Joja Warehouse, repair Willy's boat with 200 Hardwood, 5 Iridium Bars, and 5 Battery Packs, then pay 1,000g for a ticket. The island runs on Golden Walnuts instead of gold, with exactly 130 hidden across the map. You spend them with the local parrots on the Island Farmhouse, the Beach Resort, and fast travel, and you need 100 to enter Qi's Walnut Room.

Ginger Island represents the true endgame of Stardew Valley. Its infrastructure runs on Golden Walnuts and not gold, so the parrots who build it want walnuts and nothing else.

Unlocking Ginger Islandโ€‹

You unlock access to Ginger Island after completing either the Community Center or the Joja Warehouse. Willy will send you a letter inviting you to the back room of his fish shop. There, you must repair his old boat using 200 Hardwood, 5 Iridium Bars, and 5 Battery Packs.

Once repaired, you can purchase a ticket to Ginger Island for 1,000g.

The Golden Walnut Economyโ€‹

Golden Walnuts pay the parrots, who build every piece of island infrastructure. There are exactly 130 hidden across the island. You find them by solving environmental puzzles, fishing, mining, farming, and exploring the Volcano Dungeon.

You spend them with the local parrots on the Island Farmhouse (allowing you to sleep on the island), the Beach Resort (allowing Pelican Town villagers to visit), the Parrot Express fast-travel network, and the turtle blocking Island West. Spending never sets your count back, because the game tracks walnuts found, not walnuts held.

Walnuts are not the island's only currency, though. The Island Trader barters foraged goods, the dwarf on Volcano floor 5 takes plain gold and Cinder Shards, and Mr. Qi's vending machine runs on Qi Gems.

The Volcano Dungeon and The Forgeโ€‹

The northern tip of the island houses the Volcano Dungeon, a 10-floor gauntlet with no elevator. It features lava mechanics, fire-based enemies, and a Watering Can that cools lava into walkable paths for the day. A Steel Watering Can or better covers five tiles in a line, which bridges the entry river in one pour.

You only have to clear it once, though. Reaching Floor 10 opens a doorway in the southwest corner that puts you behind the locked gate at the volcano entrance. Press the floor button there and the gate stays open permanently, turning every future Forge visit into a one-screen walk. That unlock is called the Volcano Shortcut, and it also switches on twenty extra volcano floor layouts. A second, smaller shortcut lets a parrot cut an exit hole on Floor 5 for 5 Golden Walnuts, though that one is exit-only.

The Forgeโ€‹

At the summit of the Volcano (Floor 10) sits the Forge. Cinder Shards are the base currency, but every job needs a second ingredient, and Galaxy Souls are not one of them:

  • Random enchantment on any melee weapon or tool: 1 Prismatic Shard plus 20 Cinder Shards.
  • Innate enchantment on a lower-level melee weapon: 1 Dragon Tooth plus 10 Cinder Shards.
  • Gem forging, up to three times: one gem plus 10, then 15, then 20 Cinder Shards.
  • Infinity weapons: this is what Galaxy Souls are for. Three of them plus 60 Cinder Shards, applied to a Galaxy weapon in three passes, produce the Infinity version. They cost 40 Qi Gems each in Qi's Walnut Room.

Enchantments worth naming:

  • Weapon: "Vampiric" gives a 9% chance on kill to heal about a tenth of that monster's maximum health. "Crusader" adds 50% damage against mummies, ghosts, skeletons, and void spirits, and it kills mummies outright so you stop carrying bombs for them.
  • Tool: "Powerful" adds two power levels to an Axe, which genuinely does let a starter axe clear Large Stumps and Large Logs it could never otherwise touch. "Bottomless" grants your Watering Can infinite water.

Qi's Walnut Roomโ€‹

Qi's Walnut Room sits on the western side of the island, up the coastline of Island West past the pond. Getting there has a prerequisite of its own: Island West is sealed by a sleeping turtle until you pay a parrot 10 Golden Walnuts. The door itself opens once you have found 100 Golden Walnuts.

Qi Gems and Extreme Questsโ€‹

Inside, Mr. Qi offers ten rotating Special Orders, two per week. Qi's Hungry Challenge asks you to reach Skull Cavern floor 100 within 7 days without eating or drinking anything while you are in the cavern, for 25 Qi Gems. Buffs you ate before entering keep running. Do not confuse it with Skull Cavern Invasion, which sets the same floor target but fills the cavern with dangerous monsters for 40 gems, or with Danger In The Deep, which is the modified Pelican Town Mines.

You spend Qi Gems to purchase best-in-slot items, including:

  • Key to the Town (20 gems): Opens most Pelican Town buildings at any hour. It does not work at Leah's cottage, Elliott's cabin, the Movie Theater, the Oasis, or during festivals.
  • Pierre's Missing Stocklist (50 gems): Lets Pierre stock every season's seeds year-round. You have to hand it to him before it does anything, and out-of-season seeds carry a 50% markup.
  • Enrichers (20 gems for four): A sprinkler attachment. Load it with fertilizer and it applies that fertilizer to seeds you plant inside the sprinkler's range. A sprinkler cannot carry an Enricher and a Pressure Nozzle at the same time.
  • Galaxy Souls (40 gems each): The only reliable route to the Infinity weapons.

Once the island is fully upgraded, the vending machine also buys surplus Golden Walnuts at 2 Qi Gems each.

The Perfection Trackerโ€‹

The room also houses the Perfection Tracker, which scores eleven weighted categories and not a handful. Shipping alone is 15% of it, friendships 11%, and the Golden Clock, Monster Slayer goals, Stardrops, cooking, crafting, and fish are 10% each. The display rounds down, so it only reads 100% at true 100%.

The morning after you hit 100%, a rumbling clears the boulder north of the Railroad and opens The Summit. Walking there plays the ending cutscene and credits. Interacting with the tracker afterward gives you the Statue of True Perfection, which produces one Prismatic Shard a day.

If gold is easier for you than grinding, Fizz sells Perfection Waivers at 500,000g per 1%. Fourteen of them cost 7,000,000g against the 13,000,000g the four obelisks and Golden Clock would run you for the same 14%.
