The Mastery System

Introduced in the monumental 1.6 update, the Mastery system radically alters late-game character progression. It provides permanent, account-wide paradigm shifts that redefine how you interact with the game's core economy and combat.

Unlocking the Mastery Cave​

Before 1.6, character progression stagnated once you reached Level 10 in all five primary skills (Farming, Mining, Foraging, Fishing, and Combat).

The Mastery Cave is hidden in the Cindersap Forest, built into a cliff face south of Leah's cottage. You cannot enter it until you achieve Level 10 in all five skills. Once unlocked, a new experience bar appears at the bottom of your skills tab.

Earning Mastery Stars​

Inside the Mastery Cave, you must accumulate massive amounts of experience to unlock Mastery Stars. You earn this experience by performing any action that normally grants skill XP (harvesting crops, mining rocks, catching fish, killing monsters).

The experience curve is steep. The first star requires 10,000 XP, the second requires 15,000 XP, and so on.

Mastery Rewards​

You can spend a Mastery Star at any of the five pillars in the cave. Each pillar corresponds to a specific skill and grants permanent buffs and exclusive items.

Farming Mastery​

  • Unlocks the Iridium Scythe, which can harvest all crops (not just wheat and amaranth).
  • Unlocks the Golden Animal Cracker. When fed to a farm animal (excluding Pigs), it permanently doubles their produce yield.
  • Unlocks the Blessing of the Statue.

Mining Mastery​

  • Doubles the yield of all gem-bearing rocks.
  • Unlocks the Statue of the Dwarf King, which allows you to choose one of two mining buffs each day (e.g., greater chance to find ladders, bombs do no damage to you).
  • Unlocks the Heavy Furnace, which smelts more bars at once efficiently.

Foraging Mastery​

  • Allows you to find Golden Mystery Boxes, which contain superior loot compared to standard Mystery Boxes.
  • Unlocks the Treasure Totem, which spawns a ring of artifact spots around you when used on tillable soil.
  • Unlocks the Mystic Tree Seed.

Fishing Mastery​

  • Enables the discovery of Golden Fishing Treasure Chests during the fishing minigame.
  • Unlocks the Advanced Iridium Rod, the ultimate fishing tool that allows you to attach two different bobbers simultaneously (e.g., stacking two Trap Bobbers to reduce the fish escape rate by 50%).
  • Unlocks the Challenge Bait recipe.

Combat Mastery​

  • Unlocks a brand-new equipment slot for Trinkets. Trinkets are found as rare drops while adventuring and grant dynamic combat assists. Examples include an ice-shooting frog familiar, an item that grants invulnerability frames when taking damage, or a magic quiver that fires projectiles passively.
  • Unlocks the Anvil, used to re-roll Trinket stats.
